NOTES ON PRESERVATIVES: The preservatives used in the conventional lotion blends are phenoxyethanol and potassium sorbate. Phenoxyethanol is a considered a more natural preservative compared with harsher paraben based preservative systems. Potassium sorbate is a mild preservative and is a paraben alternative that prevents the growth of microorganisms. It is commonly used in cosmetics as well as the food industry. The natural lotion blend uses leuconostoc (radish foot ferment filtrate), lactobacillus, and cocus nucifera (coconut) fruit extract. Leuconostoc is an all-natural broad spectrum antibacterial agent that is produced from radish roots. Lactobacillus is an acidifying, anti-microbial, anti-fungal peptide producing agent that is commonly used in cosmetics as well as in the fermentation of food products like yogurt, kimchi, and sauerkraut. Cocus nucifera (coconut) fruit extract is a widely used humectant with moisturizing properties. It is also found to have anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties that inhibit spoiling. It is commonly used in both all-natural cosmetics and the food industry as well. Both the natural and the conventional blends are similar in feel, color, and smell and share an expected shelf like of 12+ months from the date of manufacture when stored in cool, dry conditions.
